“I thought you were doing that!”
“Me? I thought that was on your plate...”
Project details “fall through the cracks” due to
a lack of clarity in regard to project roles and assigned
tasks. Review the Work Breakdown
Structure to determine the skills and talents
required to produce project deliverables; e.g., decision
maker, project manager; writer, designer, web programmer,
etc. Match the defined roles that result to individuals
or resources qualified to fulfill those functions.
Then, assign the tasks and activities appropriate
to each role until all the elements in the WBS have
been “spoken for”. Voila—no cracks!
An elegant but useful tool for capturing and communicating
responsibilities is known as a LACTI
Chart. The chart is a simple matrix arrangement
of information that indicates the linkage between
specific tasks and the names of those involved in
them. The acronym LACTI denotes the type of involvement;
i.e.:
L—leads A—advises
C—consulted
T—tasked
I—informed
