Guidelines for Application
How much planning should I do to ensure the success of
my project?
That depends on the project...
To identify the planning process
and/or tools that are right for the job, consider the following:
- Is the project large and/or complex? (e.g., annual report,
benefits website)
- Is the project related to a critical business or technology
initiative? (e.g., rollout of SAP)
- Are there strategic issues at stake? (e.g., Wall Street
presentation, proposal to a foreign government)
- Is the timeframe realistic given the stakes involved?
If the answer to one or more of these questions is “Yes,”
it’s a job for MPMP Communications,
a comprehensive end-to-end process. For projects of limited
scope, the Project Charter
incorporates best practices in a stand-alone planning tool.

Tip:
Whichever route you choose, beware the pressure from clients
and/or team members to shortchange upfront planning. After
all, if you don’t have time to do it right, when will you
have time to do it over?
